Public universities in Uganda were for long admitting boys and girls based on merit, however the numerous challenges the girl children go through, it become clear that admissions to public universities was highly skewed in favour of boys against girls. This meant the job market was to be a male domain. The Government came up with a policy of additional 1.5 points for every girl child joining public institutions, the policy change produced considerable success, a number of girls entering public universities and they compete very favorably against their male counterparts.
